Become a referee
Those who are interested in becoming a referee will need to attend a referee certification course prior to the start of the 2013 outdoor
summer season. The Minnesota State Referee Committee (SRC) http://www.minnesotasrc.com holds
certification clinics through-out Minnesota beginning in January.
The Blaine Soccer Club is hosting the following clinics in 2013. You may attend any other clinic location that fits your level and
schedule if you are unable to attend these. To find and register for a clinic or to check out further details about refereeing in
general, go to http://www.minnesotasrc.com.
Entry Level Referee Clinic - United States Soccer Federation’s Grade Level 8
Date: 3/16/2013 8:30AM-5:30PM @ Blaine City Hall
This is the entry level course for becoming a new referee in 2013. Recommended age is 14+ for becoming a level 8 Grade Referee.
Younger referees should attend the Level 9 course. The Grade 8 course is eight (8) hours of classroom. The Grade 8 covers the Laws
of the Game and other aspects of officiating in far greater depth, hence the greater time commitment, but also results in the
referee being better qualified and having more game options available to him or her.
The Grade 8 online training is approximately seven hours in length with quizzes built into the material. This online material must
be completed prior to being able to proceed to classroom signup.
Recreational Referee Clinic - United States Soccer Federation’s Grade Level 9
Date: 3/16/2013 9:30AM-2:30PM @ Blaine City Hall
The Grade 9 clinic is designed for brand new referees. The Grade 9 online training is approximately three hours in length with
quizzes built into the material and must be completed prior to being able to proceed to classroom signup. The classroom element is
shorter than for Grade level 8's, four and a half (4.5) hours of classroom hours.
Re-Certification Course for United States Soccer Federation’s Grade Level 8
Returning Grade 8 Referee’s from 2012 are given the option to complete 100% of their training material online this year for the first time.
You are required to complete 2 hours of training online, then there is an option to attend a Re-Certification Course if you wish to still do so,
or you may take 3 additional hours of online training to complete your Re-Certification. There will be limited Re-Certification courses
available this year.
For the Grade 8 re-certification clinics, please go to the MN State Referee Committee website.
