Get to know Coach Clara! Each month we will sit down with a different Blaine Soccer Club coach and ask them a few questions to get to know them better off the field!

Q: Tell us about when you joined Blaine Soccer Club?

Clara: I joined Blaine shortly after graduating from Macalester College in May. I was fortunate enough to have Coach Tori (Burnett) as my own college coach at Macalester and she was absolutely raving about her experience here so I was extremely excited to come join the squad.

Q: How have you liked your experience so far at Blaine?

Clara: I think for me, obviously besides having the amazing experience of coaching great kids and being in a great community is the full time staff environment that we have here. It is really exciting - not many coaches get to wake up and get excited about actually going to work and being with other full time employees and have that community during the day before coaching those kids. It is really something special to be able to bounce ideas off of each other and talk about soccer all day long.

Why did you choose coaching as a career?

Clara: Going into coaching definitely wasn't a path that I saw myself on, I was an international studies major at Macalester and studied abroad in Paris and I kind of thought that the human rights world was where I would be, but a couple of months before graduating I started getting into coaching and I felt  this passion for [coaching] that I had never felt before. I kept thinking how much coaches in my life as an athlete had totally changed my experience as a student, an athlete, and a person, and how I really wanted to have the same affect on young athletes as well.

What is your favorite part of coaching?

Clara: I think my favorite part of coaching is two things: first is just being active with kids. There are not many jobs in the world where you are on your feet working and being loud with children for an hour or an hour and a half. Obviously it is nice when we get to go outside and do that, but inside is fine as well. I think the second thing is when you see progress. Whether that is comprehension of the kids you are coaching, or growing relationships with them and getting to know more about them and seeing them succeed.

If you are not coaching, where would we find you?

Clara: I will either be binge watching the food network or exercising at Alchemy 365 - Pursue Your Legend
