BSC Traveling Soccer tryouts usually begin the 3rd weekend in July for the U9-U11 age groups. U12- U19 age group tryouts begin after the MYSA Summer State tournament has completed. Go to
the tryout page for further details.
Who is eligible to play on a BSC travel team? BSC holds open tryouts. Any player that registers can participate in tryouts that wishes to play for BSC. How long do tryouts last? Tryouts typically run for 2 hours. Short breaks are scheduled. Please provide your child with an appropriate amount of fluids. What equipment do players need for tryouts? All players are required to have shin guards, soccer specific cleats and a properly inflated soccer ball. A tryout shirt will be supplied by BSC with a player specific tryout number. What if I cannot attend tryouts because of illness or injury? Complete the tryout registration and notify BSC that you will not be attending. For those on current BSC rosters, the coaches’ seasonal evaluation from previous year may be used for input on team placement. For new players, given that evaluators are not able to evaluate your performance, you will be placed on the lowest team/level for your age group - room permitting. A player may also be placed on a higher team at the discretion of the coaching director - this is also known as a 'coaches' pick. Who can answer questions during tryouts? Feel free to contact any available BSC Board member or Age Group Managers at tryouts for clarifications or questions. If you still have questions, please refer to the tryout page. Who are the evaluators? |
BSC hires independent evaluators to participate in the tryout evaluation process. BSC board members, staff and coaches may be present during tryouts, but ARE NOT INVOLVED IN EVALUATION RANKINGS. Why does my child get a specific tryout shirt with number? This number is how our independent evaluators will know your child throughout the tryout process. This number is what BSC will use during team formation and notification of team placement. |
Can my child tryout for more than one age level? Yes, although BSC recommends that a child plays at their age level you may tryout at another age level if you wish. Rankings for each evaluation will be kept separate and you must register and pay for each tryout. What is the cost of tryouts? How do I register for tryouts? Tryout fees are nonrefundable and subject to change without notice. Goalies-My child is a goalie, do they need to tryout? BSC holds goalie-specific tryouts for U13-U16 age levels. In some cases, a goalie may also tryout as a field player as well and attend both tryouts. This player must register for both tryouts, but one tryout |
fee will cover both tryouts. |

It is BSC's intention to form the most competitive teams at each age and level (Gold-Premier). This allows players to compete at their highest level and to continue development at the best pace possible. So keeping a team together from year to year is based on the outcome of tryouts only. What age group am I in? BSC follows MYSA player age group selection. See the MYSA age guidelines. When do game schedules come out? MYSA sends out schedules for Fall in Late August/early September. Summer schedules come out in mid-late April. |
Who will my coach be?
Most BSC teams under U13 use volunteer coaches. Volunteer Coaches apply and are generally chosen by the Director of Coaching (DOC). Paid Coaches apply and are interviewed by the Team and DOC. BSC recommends a minimum of an “E” / Level 5 license for all coaches. (You may or may not have a coach that was involved at the REC level. )
What if the team my child has been selected to play on does not have a coach yet?
BSC does everything in its power to have a coach in place for each team at the time of tryouts. BSC works hard to fill any coach vacancies and in some cases a coach is named after tryouts. Please continue with your Registration/Commitment acceptance process and fee and BSC will alert you when a coach is named. If you have an interest in coaching, please contact the Director of Coaching.

BSC holds all player passes until payments are received. These players will not be allowed to participate in games or practices until payments have been received.

BSC travel uniforms are on a two year cycle and uniform fees are NOT included in the Travel Registration fee/costs. For new players, BSC will set up a window of time that uniforms can be ordered prior to the upcoming season. Currently BSC partners with Planet Soccer for uniform logistics and ordering. You will be notified of how to order a uniform, dates and fees once you have paid your BSC travel commitment fee.
